Chanel N.5, the most famous fragrance known in all the world, it’s host at Palais de Tokyo, the contemporary arts center in Paris, for an exhibition entitled “N.5 Culture Chanel”.
After Moscow, Beijing and Canton, from 5 May to 5 July, the history of this fabulous perfume loved by all the women, is described about his ties between fashion, art and Coco’s life, showing not only the quintessence of what Mademoiselle Chanel was about (her life, her loves, the avant-garde artists and writers she surrounded herself with), but would also taste for what Chanel would become.
Salvador Dalì, Picasso, Picabia, Man Ray, Apollinaire, poets and musicians Coco’s friends affected her artistic life, represented different points of view to talk about the artfact N.5 was in. Jean-Louis Froment, the curator of Culture Chanel, wrote “like a work of art which is renewed with each visitor’s gaze at every exhibition, N°5 recomposes its history with each encounter and time it traverses”, from her consumed-passion with lord Arthur Capel, well-known as “Boy”, to the full periode of “la garçonne”, the travels in Venice, La Pausa and the lucky meeting with Ernest Beaux, the famous perfumer she gave the mission to imagine her first perfume.
Many muses have been icons of the famous fragrance with its floral notes, as Catherine Deneuve, Carole Bouquet, Nicole Kidman, Audrey Tatou and, more recently, Brad Pitt; but the most remembered in the media history and the best cherished was Marylin Monroe, when asked what she wore to sleep in, she responded : « five drops of Chanel No. 5« .
