Indian Magic: Lila Horn Fall/Winter 2012
The striking scenery and hand block printed fabrics of India served as inspiration to Lillian Barry and Helen Millson’s Fall/Winter 2012 Collection for Lila Horn. The two Yale students bonded over a mutual love for the rich and intricate textiles adorning India’s inhabitants and have tried to translate the aesthetic for western consumption. “Our FW12 collection is a modern approach to hand block printed fabric on classic, feminine and comfortable silhouettes. This ancient Indian technique allows us to execute precise graphic prints while also emanating the artistry and intimacy of the human hand,” state the design duo.
The palette is vibrant, but not excessive. Hues of orchid purple, raspberry and neon blue are enough to lift one’s spirit on a cold winter day. Black and white bow tie and Lila dot patterned dresses were our favourites. The plumberry and magenta dresses also worked, but sadly the colour blocking took away from the garments. Not a fan of harem pants in general, but the Lila Horn interpretation tickled our fancy.
