Spijkers en Spijkers SS12 – London Fashion Week
Spijkers en Spijkers have been known from the beginning, when the label was founded in 2000, for their graphic details and outstanding use of colours, and the collection for Spring/Summer 2012 is no exception.
The Dutch twin sisters Truus and Riet Spijkers were inspired by the fascinating tale of One Thousand and One Nights, and more specifically by the character of Sheherazade, who bewitched the king by her wittiness.
Declined in a sparkling palette of lime yellow, coral, oriental blue, ivoire and black, Arabic geometrics such as rhombus shapes and Penrose figures are central in this collection, creating the graphic patterns of the dresses and skirts. Spijkers en Spijkers used mostly silk twill and cotton lurex for this collection, giving all garments a very sensuous fluidity. Cropped trousers and slouchy jackets add a touch of timeless elegance.
Silk scarves were tied around the head of most models, giving a perfect finishing touch to this Oriental tale. Another stunning detail was the Y-shaped metallic chain adorning the back of all dresses.
