Alexandre Vauthier SS23 Haute Couture
The designer Alexandre Vauthier has struck again with his summer haute couture collection. At first glance, the faux fur pieces may seem out of place for a summer collection, but the designer has cleverly incorporated them to meet the needs of his clients. The latter are looking for outfits for trips to the North to avoid crowds and discover new horizons. Vauthier has therefore opted for warm and comfortable pieces, while keeping the sexy side of his brand. His hunt for the best faux fur led him to an incredibly soft and voluminous material, which he worked in black, acid green, bottle green and hot pink, mounting the fabric inside out to give even more volume and fun.
But that’s not the only surprise in this collection. Vauthier revisited some of his signature pieces such as well-cut jackets, bombers, second skin pants and ultra-sexy hems. Strapless black velvet dresses were adorned with an explosion of hot pink ruffles, creating an updated version of the puffy skirt. Turquoise sequins shine from the hood to the matching boots, in tribute to Grace Jones. A tuxedo jacket was paired with an asymmetrical skirt in mirror-lacquered rhodoid, offering a modern and original take on the diamond pattern, which is the hot trend for the upcoming season.
Vauthier also played with more complicated constructions, such as slouchy pants with a shape reminiscent of the diamond pattern, but with draped hips and a slimmed-down fit that took 12 tries before arriving at a perfect result. The extra wide sleeves are actually gloves. A black bomber embroidered with sequins can be transformed into a long dress by opening it and detaching the back.
For Vauthier, haute couture must be “contemporary and forward-looking. With this collection, he has succeeded in combining the classics with the most daring trends to offer his customers an unprecedented variety of choices. We look forward to seeing what he has in store for us in the coming seasons.
