Badanjak launched\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lovasfashion.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LOVAS<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in 2008 and we\u2019ve been a big fan of his talented work ever since. Earlier this year, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fashionist.ca\/2012\/01\/wesley-badanjak-takes-over-as-new-designer-of-canadian-label-basch.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fashionist<\/a>\u00a0and others reported\u00a0that Badanjak had become\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/basch.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BASCH\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>new creative director.\u00a0The idea of doing something outside of what he normally does and the chance to work with a different team of individuals appealed to the young designer. \u201cI think you\u2019ll see me in there, but it\u2019s different,\u201d explained Badanjak when questioned about BASCH\u2019s new direction backstage before the show. \u201cObviously, I have to think of the history behind the brand and what Brandon\u00a0[Dwyer] has done with it.\u201d Badanjak\u2019s aim was to retain the cocktail\/evening wear focus of the label while infusing his style and tailoring.<br \/>\nArguably the strongest pieces of the BASCH collection, a parade of beautiful chenille outerwear, dresses, and skirts kicked off the ready-to-wear segment in a triple header that included the\u00a0<strong>BASCH It Up<\/strong>\u00a0student competition, followed by\u00a0<strong>BASCH<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>LOVAS<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Fall\/Winter 2012<\/strong>. Sequinned dresses packed so tight they looked like fish scales look very appealing to a younger demographic while chiffons, knits, and patterned crepe de Chines could go either way. This is great affordable luxury that Torontonians will eat up. Most of the dresses retail for under\u00a0<em>$200<\/em>.<br \/>\nBadanjak\u2019s\u00a0<strong>LOVAS FW12 Collection<\/strong>\u00a0was inspired by the character of Brenda, in Canadian author Margaret Atwood\u2019s novel,\u00a0<em>The Year of the Flood.\u00a0<\/em>Brenda\u2019s life transforms from that of privileged child, to a cult member of gardening vegans, to that of a dancer in a seedy nightclub. How typically Canadian of Brenda. \u201cIt\u2019s about taking all of these random elements [of the character] and mashing them all together,\u201d says Badanjak. Highlights of the collection include those gorgeous ombre tweed pieces that everyone will surely be talking about, the lace-like cobweb knits, and python jacquards.
