Thomas Sabo Fall/Winter 2011
So the problem with hosting a Thomas Sabo Fall/Winter 2011 Launch at a place like Lee Lounge, is that you have one of the world’s greatest chefs on hand whipping up the most savoury hors d’oeuvres. A little hard to concentrate on the jewellery when they are serving up Susur Lee’s delicious Char Sui Peking duck rolls, beef carpaccio on garlic potato chips, and blue cheese mousse filled cones topped with apples, beets, and spiced nuts. If Chef Lee’s Asian delights distracted me, then CTVs Tanya Kim and the rest of the gorgeous women on hand completely disoriented me. For a little while at least.
For FW11 Thomas Sabo’s Asian-inspired jewellery collection unites the symbol-rich world of the Far East with the cutting-edge fashion trends from the international catwalks. Think Ermenegildo Zegna Men’s Fall/Winter 2011 or Ralph Lauren’s Women’s Fall/Winter 2011 and you’ll find this elegant, mystical black, sensual purple, and deep ruby-red jewellery collection fits right in. The dramatic key colours of the collection are also reflected in the setting, which whisks us off into the electrifying nightlife of an Asian megacity. Here, the magic of an exotic world merges with the flair of luxurious hotel suites, the spiritual calm of a Buddhist temple with the power Pop of the 1980s and the grand noblesse oblige of Imperial Germany with the coquettish charm of the 1930s. The result is a collection full of elegant luminosity and a desire-awakening hint of Asian magic.
Below is a breakdown from Thomas Sabo of their Seasonal, Rebel at Heart, e Classic lines that form next season’s collection. The men’s pieces were a big hit with the ladies looking to pick up dragon bracelets and pendants for themselves. Great stuff! SEASONAL
The Seasonal line scintillates with enigmatic lightness, Far Eastern poetry and comic-inspired elements. Modern Geisha quotes transform folklore into fashion statements, traditional Buddhist bracelets are metamorphosed into hip-and-trendy beaded bracelets and cute little panda bears are crafted into objects d’art. The positive karma of the Buddhist Great Blessing symbols – which promise joy, health, peace and long life, among other things – overarches the entire collection and has also been interpreted in brilliant red for the very first time.
REBEL AT HEART
In the Rebel at heart line, influences from the more than 3500 years of high Asian culture meet urban dandyism and transform Kung Fu fighters into extraordinary gentlemen. Mystical fable creatures – such as the Chinese dragon – herald strength, wisdom and fortune; exquisite swords pay homage to martial arts and the soul of the Samurai warrior; tough beaded bracelets symbolise spiritual Buddhist willpower and flame-red lanterns and breathtakingly-beautiful fans seems to have arisen from the spectacular backdrops of the Beijing Opera and its racy pageantry.
CLASSIC
The Classic line blends sensual boudoir style and modern, cosmopolitan elegance with the opulent imagery of the 1930s. Delicate feathers, romantic key shapes and enigmatic masks are the conspicuous reminiscences of this extremely feminine period. For the very first time, the popular THOMAS SABO winged heart seduces with magically-sparkling black synthetic zirconia and extravagant, strikingly-proportioned items of jewellery in juicy purple lend dignity and radiance.
