SPiN Toronto Pre-Launch Party With Soo Yeon Lee
Ever since I was old enough to get my hands on my first fake ID, nightclubs, lounges, and supper clubs have been the traditional weekend party destinations of choice. Unfortunately, the advent of grubby promoters’ fake-it-to-make-it lifestyle crap in the early 2000s replaced the good times and good vibes with bottle service booth confessionals in churches of pretension. We’ve gone from dancing the night away to killer DJ sets to text messaging the night away to a barrage of hair-flicking like whatevers и oh my Gods. Suffice it to say, with many of the city’s ‘hotspots’ growing increasingly expensive, cliquish, and 905-ish – it’s become difficult to go out and have a good time.
The solution? Private parties and events that rely on shrewd promotion and carefully composed VIP lists from established PR professionals instead of sleazy tattooed club promoters. Another great option, the cool burgeoning sports-themed party venues like Toronto’s bowling bar and grill Бальный зал and soon to be opened ping pong social club, SPiN.
SPiN was founded in New York City when filmmakers Raharinosy and Bricklin began throwing weekly ping pong parties in their Tribeca loft a few years ago. The parties quickly attracted a celebrity clientele, and outgrew the loft space. In 2009, SPiN New York was born and SPiN has since spiked into Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and now, Toronto. Partners Franck Raharinosy, Andrew Gordon, Jonathan Bricklin, Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon (Thelma & Louise), and local operating partner Ryan Fisher are launching the venue at 461 King Street West in downtown Toronto this summer.
“Ping pong is the perfect urban sport, fun for all skill levels and a great way to connect with new people,” said Andrew Gordon, SPiN Galactic’s CEO. “SPiN clubs also offer an ideal setting for corporate gatherings, where large groups of people can mingle around a game of ping pong. Toronto is a fabulous cosmopolitan city and a SPiN ping pong club will fit in perfectly. We are thrilled to be opening SPiN Toronto this summer.”
The 12,000-square-foot space will feature 12 of the highest quality tables, Olympic-quality flooring, custom designed lighting, two full bars, change rooms, a private party room and a unique, custom designed private court. SPiN Toronto’s restaurant will open seven days a week with a selection of sharing plates, mini tacos, gourmet grilled cheese, a variety of sliders and personalized event menus for any large event or group booking. Whether you want to play, watch or socialize, SPiN Toronto will be opened to members and walk-in guests. The club offers both individual and family memberships starting at $50 per month or $500 per year, or hourly rates starting at $10 for 30 minutes.
Last night SPiN held a Pre-Launch Party at the Burroughes Building that included some incredible samples of their food, Boris и Hop City Beer (both great by the way), a well stocked open bar, and great tunes. Special guest of the night was smoking hot model/ping pong champion/actress Soo Yeon Lee. The girl kicked some serious ass (in six-inch heels no less) on one of the several ping pong tables that had been laid out for all to enjoy. Great time and looking forward to SPiN opening!
