‘Birds of Paradise’, the name of this Autumn Winter collection by Dutch duet Spijkers en Spijkers, is also what the Dutch call eccentric people. Edie Bouvier Beale, American socialite, model and cabaret performer, was one of them and is the muse who inspired this collection. First cousin of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, ‘Little Edie’ found herself completely penniless when her father left his family. She and her mother then became a very eccentric and unusual couple with a unique style.

As expected, the collection is full of colours, autumney shades such as rust, mustard, mulberry purple, with flashes of bright blue and red. The designers remained faithful to their signature fabrics, declining their geometrical patterns on silk satin and crepe de chine, as well as wool. The theme of the collection is reminded throughout through embroidered blue birds and feather trimmings. Whilst there is nothing sophisticated about the Spijkers en Spijkers silhouette, the line will seduce women who like to play with the codes of feminity and have fun with their clothes.
