Hipster Urban Travellers: Soïa & Kyo Fall/Winter 2012
Our friend Ilan Elfassy showed at Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week for the first time this past week. The Soïa & Kyo Fall/Winter 2012 Collection marks a distinct evolution in the innovative brand of outerwear and heralds a new look for the line. Elfassy has drawn inspiration from what he calls the hipster urban traveller, someone who is effortlessly fashionable and stands out in the crowd. There is a carefree sense of individuality in the S&K brand which has made it popular with the younger demographic. Outerwear, clearly the Quebec label’s forte, is represented in svelte sophisticated floppy-lapelled coats neatly cinched at the waist, to puffy North Pole ready parkas with all of the fur trimmings. Elfassy wants you covered no matter what the occasion or how bad the weather.
Greys, blacks and beige are everywhere for FW12 and S&K is no exception. A pop of red for the women, a hint of moss green for the men and rousing mustard yellow for both equal a tribute to the fall season, as Elfassy puts it. As with SS12, the designer has included his detachable liners in some of the pieces which serve a dual purpose insulating and expand the garment so that you have a few extra inches to stuff more sweater on those cold Canadian days. Elfassy succeeds in not only keeping us warm, but keeping us stylish with a great S&K outerwear selection for FW12 and some impressive knits, furry hats and accessories.
