Vivienne Westwood – London Fashion Week SS22
Vivienne Westwood continues what she’s started a few seasons back: re-inventing past collections, getting fabulous pieces from her archives back into the limelight. This season is no different, taking inspiration from Summer 98’s collection ‘Tied to the mast’, about pirates and the work of 19th English couturier Redfern.
Reduced to its minimum but lovely and efficient, as per the designer’s own words, the collection is showcased by models such as Georgia May Jagger and Lily McMenamy and features many nautical touches with a twist such as the bold diagonal navy stripes, but also plenty of references to some of the most iconic Westwood’s pieces from the 90’s, whether it be the pirate boots, the corsets or the ‘drunken’ system.
Explicitly called ‘Save our Souls’, this SS22 collection is obviously as committed to sustainability as the previous ones, and Vivienne Westwood specifies in the collection notes that recycling and reusing waste are key in the marking of the garments (for the first time, there are no virgin synthetic fabrics). Wool comes from regenerative farming.
