Halpern – London Fashion Week SS22

This October, dancers from the Royal Opera House will finally be allowed back to perform in front of an audience, in iconic ballet Romeo and Juliet. Halpern celebrates this homecoming in his Spring-Summer 2022 film via an extremely joyful collection with a sheer opulence of bold colours, feathers, sequins and fringes. Each creation is dedicated to showcasing a specific type of movement activated by the physicality of the ballet and how they adapt to the piece they wear.

The designer wanted to explore the polar extremes of fluidity and restriction, as a reminder of the terrible consequences of the pandemic and repetitive lockdowns that hit performing artists the hardest in the cultural world, with a sharp contrast between the silky, draped or fringed dresses, maximising each gesture, and constricting garments such as the orb dresses, in which the ability to move looks quite restricted.
